Nieuw Statendam maiden voyage

Holland America Line’s flagship Nieuw Statendam has arrived in Fort Lauderdale, USA after her maiden voyage from Rome, Italy.

The Premier Sailing of the brand new 2,666-guest cruise ship commenced in the Eternal City on the evening of Wednesday 05 December before visiting Spain, Portugal and then making a 7-day crossing of the Atlantic.

Nieuw Statendam is the second of Holland America Line’s Pinnacle-class cruise ships and she sets new standards for premium cruising. There are purpose-built staterooms for families and solo travellers, as well as sumptuous Neptune and Pinnacle Suites.

Indeed Nieuw Statendam is an evolution of her sister-ship, the immensely popular Koningsdam, with refinements and new additions designed to lift the onboard experience to a new level.

The interiors onboard Nieuw Statendam feature grand, light-filled spaces and designer Adam D. Tihany has added visual drama with fluid curves reminiscent of musical instruments.

The ship is a foodies delight, with no fewer than 10 onboard dining venues. Guests can eat at innovative specialty restaurants like Rudi’s Sel de Mer, Tamarind and the Grand Dutch Cafe. Alternatively there is the spectacular dual-level main Dining Room with its extensive regular and vegetarian menus, plus the Pinnacle Grill and Canaletto as well.

Guests in the top Neptune and Pinnacle Suites and Club Orange rooms have access to the exclusive Club Orange restaurant too.

B.B. King’s All Stars brings the best of Memphis music to Nieuw Statendam.

There are also creative new music venues like the Rolling Stone Rock Room where a resident band rocks out iconic hits from the hottest acts. Another popular music spot is B.B. King’s All Stars which brings the best of Memphis music to sea. And speaking of creativity, Nieuw Statendam takes artistic passion to new heights with a collection comprising works by over 150 of the World’s top artists. In fact the onboard art collection is one of the largest at sea.

Following the Nieuw Statendam maiden voyage, the ship will spend the season cruising the Caribbean. In fact she’s about to set sail on a three-day cruise with the ship’s godmother, Oprah Winfrey.
