In a scene redolent of ancient maritime tradition yet showcasing the future of oceanic opulence, Explora Journeys celebrated the launch of Explora IV’s forward lower section – known as the troncone – at Fincantieri’s Palermo shipyard.
More than 350 guests gathered under the Sicilian sun to witness this ceremonial milestone for the MSC Group’s luxury lifestyle ocean travel brand.

The ship, the fourth in a planned sextet of vessels redefining high-end cruising, represents another jewel in Explora’s carefully curated crown. Once completed at Fincantieri’s Sestri Ponente facility, Explora IV will join the fleet in 2027.
“We are incredibly proud to reach this significant milestone in the construction of Explora IV. This ship represents our unwavering commitment to delivering a new standard of excellence in luxury ocean travel. Our partnership with Fincantieri, one of the finest shipbuilders in the world, is built on shared values of innovation and the relentless pursuit of quality.”
Anna Nash, Global President of Explora Journeys.

Italian heritage guides cutting edge modernity
The collaboration between Explora Journeys and Italian shipbuilder Fincantieri exemplifies the pinnacle of “Made in Italy” craftsmanship. The entire six-vessel fleet represents a EUR 3.5 billion investment from MSC Group’s Cruise Division, generating an estimated EUR 15 billion economic impact for Italy and employing approximately 2,500 skilled craftspeople per vessel over a two-to-three-year construction period.
With sustainability woven into its luxurious fabric, the newer ships – Explora III and VI – will be powered by liquefied natural gas (LNG), reflecting the brand’s commitment to environmental responsibility without compromising on extravagance.
Explora I has been welcoming discerning cruise guests since August 2023, with Explora II joining the fleet in September 2024. The remaining vessels will arrive in succession through 2028, each offering transformative experiences designed to connect passengers with both the ocean’s timeless majesty and the contemporary world’s most captivating destinations.
