The intimate Azamara Onward has a surprisingly large number of dining options. There are five restaurants to choose from:

  • Aqualina
  • Prime C
  • Discoveries Restaurant
  • The Patio
  • Windows Cafe

They all serve delicious, great looking food; but we rate Aqualina as the best restaurant on board. It has a tempting menu full of Mediterranean-inspired delights.

Aqualina

Our preferred dining venue on Azamara Onward is the Aqualina restaurant. What makes it special is the cuisine; classic Italian with antipasti, pasta and meat dishes, not to mention delicious vegetarian options.

Starters include a mouthwatering Beef Carpaccio with Oven-dried Cherry Tomatoes & Crispy Red Skin Potato, as well as tasty Eggplant Lasagna Rolls stuffed with Roast Bell Pepper Tapenade on Italian Couscous with Pecorino Cheese.

Eggplant Lasagna, a great vegetarian option on Azamara Onward.

There is a traditional Italian second course too. We recommend the Creamy White Bean Soup, Goats Cheese & Basil Oil.

Squid Ink Pasta with Lobster Tail, Shrimp, Calamari & Light Garlic-lemon Jus.
The house-made Squid Ink Pasta with Lobster Tail.

Main course includes an excellent Mediterranean Sea Bass with Sauté of Shrimp, Calamari & Scallop. We also enjoyed the Veal Chop with Garlic, Lemon & Herb Crust. However, the Squid Ink Pasta with Lobster Tail, Shrimp, Calamari & Light Garlic-lemon Jus is not to be missed.

A Rasberry Macaroon on a plate with ice cream.
Enjoy tempting desserts like Rasberry Macaroons.

Aqualina has a great dessert menu too, with Tiramisu as well as a decadent Flourless Chocolate Torte, to name just a few. There are also daily specials like Raspberry Macaroons.

Aqualina is open for dinner only. Reservations are essential and a dining supplement is payable if you are not in a Suite or Veranda Plus category room.

It’s worth noting that Aqualina is closed on the White Night and the AzAmazing Evening.

Dinner: 6:00pm – 9:00pm

Prime C

The Prime C restaurant is a steakhouse in the iconic American style. It serves succulent steaks, as well as delicious lamb, pork, poultry and seafood.

Starters include a Classic Steak Tartare with Quail Egg & White Anchovy; we rate it highly. There is also a tempting Crab & Lobster Cake with Pineapple-Papaya Salsa & Fennel-aioli.

For main course we relished an exceptionally good Herb-Coated Rack of Lamb. There is also Duck Confit on the menu, as well as Fillet Mignon, not to mention Chateaubriand which is outstanding.

All the popular steakhouse sauces are available including peppercorn, Béarnaise, mustard and Café de Paris.

Dessert is enjoyable with Key Lime Cheesecake, Scotch Whiskey Chocolate Cake and a lovely Fondant au Chocolat with Praline Crunch Gelato.

We recommend the Key Lime Cheesecake.

It’s worth noting that the Prime C menu rarely changes, however there are nightly specials so be sure to ask your waiter.

The Prime C restaurant on Azamara Onward is open for dinner only. Reservations are essential. Like Aqualina, a dining supplement is payable if you are not in a Suite or Veranda Plus room.

Dinner: 6:00pm – 9:00pm

Discoveries Restaurant

Discoveries Restaurant is the main dining room on Azamara Onward. It has a delectable, ever-changing menu that spans the globe. We also liked the open seating; you can dine at any time, without a reservation.

We rate Discoveries Restaurant highly. The menu was thoughtfully curated, the produce of astonishing quality and the dishes were divine.

A delicate Smoked Trout & King Prawn Salad.

Among the many starters we enjoyed was a tasty Smoked Trout & King Prawn Salad with Potato Salad & Harissa Dressing. Also good was the Homemade Pâté with Fig Jam, Gherkins & Crostini, not to mention the classic Indonesian Soto Ayam chicken soup.

Greek Lamb Chops with Oven Roasted Zucchini, Lemon Potatoes & Hummus.
The Discoveries Restaurant serves global cuisine, like Greek Lamp Chops with Smoked Trout & King Prawn Salad with Potato Salad & Harissa Dressing.

South East Asian dishes pepper the main course menu too. We thought the Malay Beef Rendang in Ginger & Lemongrass Sauce was very good. There are lots of European dishes too, like Butternut Risotto with Leek & Spinach, or Geek Lamb Chops with Oven-roasted Zucchini & Potatoes.

Discoveries desserts are a real treat. The Fig Almond Olive Oil Cake left us wanting more. While the Bombe Alaska looked too good to eat.

Indulgent Bombe Alaska was on the menu.

It’s worth noting that Discoveries Restaurant also has a selection of popular dishes that are always available. For instance, Classic Escargots à la Bourguignonne, Caesar Salad and Herb-lemon Marinated Grilled Chicken Breast are on the ‘Always Available’ menu.

The Discoveries Restaurant is open daily for Breakfast and dinner. It is also open for lunch on sea days. You don’t need a reservation.

Breakfast: 8:00am – 9:30am.
Lunch: 12:00pm – 1:00pm. (Sea days only.)
Dinner: 6:00pm – 9:00pm.

The Patio

The Patio has al fresco poolside dining with meats and seafood served hot off the grill. We think it is a nice alternative to the more formal restaurants. In fact, The Patio was our go-to casual dining venue.

The Patio has a casual ambiance.

The dinner menu is short, but satisfying with soups, salads and artisan breads for starters. Main course is cooked on the grill and includes BBQ Pork Ribs, Grilled Curried Chicken Kebabs, Tournedos of Lamb Tenderloin and Bone-in Beef Striploin. There are also seafood specials each day.

Daily seafood specials are served hot off the grill.

At lunchtime there is classic poolside fare like burgers, club-style sandwiches and fries.

The Patio is open for lunch daily and dinner most evenings (weather permitting). Dinner reservations are recommended, but not essential.

Lunch: 12:00pm – 5:00pm
Dinner: 6:30pm – 8:30pm

Windows Cafe

There is buffet-style dining at the Windows Cafe where you can get a table on the popular aft facing terrace.

Windows Cafe has a classic buffet spread throughout the day. Breakfast has hot and cold options. At lunchtime there are salads and cold meats, as well as shrimps, roasted meats and fish. The dinner buffet usually has a theme; on our voyage there were French, Italian and Indian themes to name a few.

In our opinion Windows Cafe was the least impressive of the Azamara Onward restaurants. That’s not to say it was not good, it’s just that the food was not up to the standard set by the other restaurants.

Windows Cafe is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner. You do not need to make reservations.

Breakfast: 7:00am – 10:00am.
Lunch: 12:30pm – 2:30pm.
Dinner: 6:30pm – 9:00pm.
