Gala launch of Seabourn Ovation took place overnight at a glittering ceremony in Valetta Harbour on the small Mediterranean island of Malta.
West End star and Seabourn Ovation godmother Elaine Page OBE did the honours, officially naming the cruise ship. In time-honoured tradition she also released a bottle of Champagne that was broken against the vessel.
The lavish ceremony took place around the teak pool deck onboard Seabourn Ovation in Valetta Harbour, Malta. A full orchestra ensemble played on the pool deck as Ms. Page treated the assembled Seabourn Ovation guests to an exclusive live performance.
The orchestra also debuted the new Seabourn anthem which was written by Sir Tim Rice, entitled: “We Sail to See the Lives of Others”.
In addition to the live performances, remarks were made by the captain of Seabourn Ovation, Stig Betten, as well as the president of Seabourn Cruises, Richard Meadows.
“The launch of Seabourn Ovation brings us to a new era for Seabourn where we further reinforce our position as the newest, most consistent fleet in the ultra-luxury cruise category,” said Mr. Meadows.
The evening was brought to a spectacular finale with a brilliant fireworks display that lit up the harbour of Valletta.
Guests on the all-inclusive Seabourn Ovation will lap up luxury, with ultra-spacious suites, resort-style facilities, free Champagne and caviar on demand.
After the launch of Seabourn Ovation the ship departed for Barcelona where she will conclude her inaugural voyage. From there Seabourn Ovation will plot a course for Northern Europe where she’ll stay until October, before she returns to the Mediterranean for the remainder of the northern summer.
