The worlds newest ultra-luxury cruise line marked a major milestone in its fleet expansion yesterday. Explora Journeys celebrated the float out of Explora II and the steel cutting of another new vessel.
Just two months after the delivery of Explora I, the highly anticipated Explora II touched water for the first time at the Fincantieri shipyard near Genoa, Italy. What’s more, the first steel was cut for construction of the third vessel in the young fleet, the liquefied natural gas (LNG) powered Explora III.
“The double event today marks another major step forward on our mission to redefine ocean travel for today’s discerning luxury travellers.”
Michael Ungerer – Chief Executive Officer, Explora Journeys.
Explora II will now enter the final stages of construction, with particular attention paid the the sumptuous interior fit out. The vessel is scheduled to enter service in the Mediterranean during the northern summer of 2024.
Green credentials
Explora III will enter service in the summer of 2026. The LNG powered vessel will enhance the green credentials of Explora Journeys. Indeed, LNG can reduce sulphur oxide emissions by up to 99% and nitrogen oxides by 85%. What’s more, greenhouse gas emissions are reduced by 20%.
It’s also worth noting that the Explora Journeys fleet can plug into shore-side power, meaning engines can be turned off while in port. Also, a system of underwater noise management helps protect marine wildlife.
It’s all part of Explora Journeys mission to redefine the ocean experience for a new generation of discerning luxury cruisers. The cruise line tell us that also means connecting guests more fully with the experience at sea, with themselves, and like-minded others, all while visiting ports less-travelled.
