Overview

A voyage of distinction; that’s the best way of describing my 13-night sojourn on Seven Seas Mariner. The floating sanctuary traversed the Mediterranean’s most coveted destinations, delivering a masterclass in understated luxury.

From the vibrant streets of Barcelona to the eternal city of Rome, and calling upon the hedonistic shores of Ibiza, the rarefied air of Saint-Tropez, and the glittering principality of Monaco along the way. This meticulously curated itinerary proved to be the perfect complement to the Mariner’s inherent elegance.

Seven Seas Mariner FAQs

Yes, the Seven Seas Mariner is regarded as a luxury cruise ship because of its exquisite cuisine, all-inclusive amenities, spacious suites and exceptional service.

Seven Seas Mariner was refurbished in 2018 as part of a fleet-wide refurbishment program. It is due for another refurbishment in 2025.

Seven Seas Mariner has just one swimming pool. However, it is long enough to swim laps.

Chartreuse was the most sort after reservation on my voyage, with French cuisine that demonstrates exceptional finesse. That said, Chartreuse is slated for replacement by Pacific Rim during the next refurbishment.

Because Seven Seas Mariner is an all-inclusive cruise ship your meals, drinks, gratuities and shore excursions are included in the cruise fare. Certain suite categories also include valet laundry service.

An epicurian odyssey

Seven Seas Mariner transforms every meal into a celebration of culinary artistry. The collection of restaurants includes Compass Rose, Chartreuse, Prime 7, La Veranda and the Pool Grill.

Chartreuse has a perfectly crafted menu, bristling with epicurian panache.

Chartreuse stands as the jewel in the ship’s gastronomic crown, offering French cuisine executed with exceptional finesse. The escargots arrived perfumed with garlic and adorned with herb purée, anchovy, and Pommery mustard dressing – a presentation both visually stunning and palate-pleasing. Equally enticing was the Beetroot Salad with Fresh Goat Cheese Cream & Black Truffle Dressing.

Meanwhile, the Rose à la Chartreuse dessert (a velvet champagne mousse cradling raspberry jelly and adorned with black currant sauce) emerged as nothing short of a confectionary masterpiece.

At Prime 7, the classic chophouse concept receives a sophisticated interpretation. A seared diver scallop rest gently upon cured pork belly confit with orange-pomegranate sauce. Delightful in its thoughtful balance, the dish demonstrates the kitchen’s commitment to sourcing exceptional ingredients and preparing them with reverence.

Even the main dining room, Compass Rose, exceeds expectations. White sturgeon caviar arrives nestled atop smoked haddock parfait and zesty lemon cream, while the pan-fried cod fillet with Basque piperade exemplifies perfectly executed simplicity.

The buffet on Seven Seas Mariner is the tale of two restaurants: La Veranda and Sette Mari. During the day La Veranda assumes a casual buffet identity, with a spread of salads, seafood, cold cuts, and carved meats. As evening descends, tablecloths appear and the space transitions to Sette Mari, with table service and a menu replete with Italian classics. Alas this evening iteration falls noticeably short of the high standards set by the vessel’s other dining venues. Indeed, foodies will note the subtle but unmistakable difference in culinary precision that places Sette Mari a tier below the other restuarants on board.

Meanwhile, nestled among cloisters on the upper deck is the Pool Gill, a refreshing counterpoint to the ship’s more formal dining venues.

Evenings on Seven Seas Mariner

As twilight falls, Seven Seas Mariner transforms into a floating salon of refined entertainment. A constellation of intimate venues – each with its distinct personality – offers myriad ways to savor the evening hours.

The Observation Lounge features a pianist whose repertoire provides the perfect soundtrack for cocktail hour. Later, the Stars Lounge pulses with energy as a charismatic vocal duo perform. For those seeking more personalised musical accompaniment, the Mariner Lounge hosts a talented pianist-vocalist taking requests, while the Regent Signature Orchestra creates an enchanting backdrop for dancing in the Horizon Lounge.

Impressive: Enjoy the sophisticated live music scene.

In the Constellation Theatre you can see stage shows like “Tuxedo”; or “Blazing Boots” which can best be described as a cowboy hoedown. I thought these shows were somewhat gaudy.

On most voyages there is also a Rock The Boat deck party which stands as the entertainment highlight – an elegant affair where dancing beneath the stars feels like stepping into a private gala.

Later, the party continues with a Jukster DJ in the Stars Lounge.

What about the daytime activities

Days aboard Seven Seas Mariner unfold with intentional elegance. Enrichment lectures delivered by experts draw intellectually curious passengers, while wellness seminars offer pathways to rejuvenation. Athletic pursuits range from pickleball to morning jogs along the outdoor track, with the generously proportioned pool providing ample space for proper swimming. The putting green offers a venue for friendly competition.

When indulgence inevitably leads to desire for restoration, the Serene Spa delivers treatments with grace and care, while the adjacent salon ensures passengers maintain their polished appearance throughout the voyage.

The Garden Promenade stands as a refined sanctuary for those who appreciate the intellectual stimulation of classic gaming. With its curated collection of board games, this verdant retreat offers a sophisticated diversion from the intrusions of the digital world. Bridge devotees will find themselves particularly at home, with regular unhosted gatherings that attract both seasoned strategists and curious newcomers alike. For those seeking solitary engagement, the ship’s signature Mensa Quiz creates space for meditative rumination.

What are the suites like?

How good are the tours?

While the complimentary excursion portfolio impressively spans the breadth of Mediterranean cultural experiences, the vessel’s premium shore offerings represent the pinnacle of destination immersion. These carefully orchestrated small-group sojourns – available for discerning passengers willing to supplement their voyage investment with an addition charge – deliver encounters of exceptional intimacy and authenticity.

The distinction lies in scale and access: where the included excursions excel in breadth, by contrast the limited-attendance experiences excel in depth, placing guests within the Mediterranean’s most coveted moments rather than merely adjacent to them.

Tourists in Portofino, Italy.
Explore the fabled fishing village of Portofino on foot.

My voyage revealed the versatility of the shore program. The cobblestone pathways of Portofino unfolded before us during an expertly guided promenade through the fishing village’s storied history, the intimate scale allowing for spontaneous interactions with local artisans. Meanwhile, fellow passengers described their excursions ranging from panoramic coastal drives to immersive cultural performances – including a mesmerising flamenco exhibition that captured Spain’s passionate artistic tradition.

For those drawn to natural wonders, excursions ventured to Sardinia’s immaculate shorelines, where crystalline waters meet pristine white sand. Epicureans found particular delight in French countryside explorations featuring artisanal cheese productions near Aix-en-Provence.

The genius of the Regent approach lies in its recognition that destination experiences, like the passengers themselves, defy one-dimensional classification. Whether one’s preferences trend toward historical discovery, physical challenge, or sensory indulgence, the vessel’s excursions accommodate with the same thoughtful attention that characterises every aspect of life aboard this exceptional ship.

What’s included on Seven Seas Mariner?

Seven Seas Mariner’s all-inclusive approach eliminates the transactional elements that often intrude upon luxury experiences. Everything from sophisticated meals and premium spirits to gratuities and most shore excursions are seamlessly integrated into the cruise fare. This thoughtful approach allows passengers to immerse themselves fully in the experience, unburdened by constant decision-making about additional expenditures.

Seven Seas Sartorial

Aboard the Seven Seas Mariner, daylight hours embrace a relaxed sophistication, with linen separates, tailored resort wear, and designer sportswear appearing poolside and in casual dining venues. The observant guest might note the prevalence of understated luxury brands – subtle logos occasionally glimpsed on a perfectly draped cardigan or artfully casual loafer.

As twilight descends, Mariner undergoes a sartorial transformation. The evening dress code morphs into two distinct expressions:

For standard evenings, “Elegant Casual” prevails – women appear in flowing evening separates, tailored pantsuits, or cocktail attire that strikes the delicate balance between formality and comfort. Gentlemen complement this approach with smart trousers paired with collared shirts that whisper rather than announce their provenance, occasionally enhanced by a well-cut blazer.

On extended voyages exceeding 16 nights, the “Formal Optional” evening presents the opportunity to embrace traditional evening splendor. Here, women might select floor-length gowns or architectural cocktail dresses that would not appear out of place at metropolitan cultural galas. Their companions often select the timeless dinner jacket or immaculately tailored dark suit, completed by a carefully chosen neck tie or bow tie.

The Seven Seas Mariner milieu

The Seven Seas Mariner attracts a particular type of passenger – one who approaches luxury not merely as comfort, but as a platform for meaningful engagement with the world. The vessel’s corridors and lounges are populated by a sophisticated cohort mostly in their sixth decade and beyond, and determined to elevate travel from mere tourism to artful exploration.

These passengers embrace each port with purpose and curiosity, approaching shore excursions and onboard enrichment with equal enthusiasm. Conversations flow easily between strangers who quickly discover shared experiences.

The passenger manifest reveals a cosmopolitan group, with approximately two-thirds hailing from the USA. The remaining third represents a global tapestry: British couples celebrating milestone anniversaries, French connoisseurs critiquing the ship’s Burgundy selection, Australian raconteurs sharing tales from abroad, and Asian aesthetes appreciating the vessel’s design nuances.

This international gathering creates an atmosphere of inclusive sophistication. Indeed, Mariner’s approach to hospitality embraces this diversity in all its forms – welcoming LGBTQ+ couples with the same gracious attention afforded to all passengers, creating an environment where authentic connection transcends demographic distinctions.

Review conclusion

To step aboard the Seven Seas Mariner is to enter a realm where excellence is not merely promised but consistently delivered. From the exquisite cuisine and plush surroundings to the attention to detail that permeates every aspect of the experience, this vessel achieves that most elusive quality in luxury travel: effortlessness. That marks out Seven Seas Mariner as extra special.

Seven Seas Mariner doesn’t merely transport passengers between ports-of-call; it becomes a destination unto itself – one defined by sophistication, attentiveness, and the quiet confidence that comes from knowing precisely what discerning cruise guests desire.
