The gala launch of Rotterdam, Holland America Line’s newest vessel, took place this afternoon in the presence of royalty at the cruise ship’s namesake port of Rotterdam, Netherlands.
Her Royal Highness Princess Margriet of the Netherlands officially named the flagship vessel as distinguished guests, and this journalist, watched in the World Stage theatre on board Rotterdam.
“I name this ship Rotterdam and I wish all who sail on her a safe voyage.”

Rotterdam is the 7th Holland America Line vessel to bear the iconic name. Indeed, Group President Jan Swartz noted that the city is something of a spiritual home for the cruise line. “The history of Rotterdam and the history of Holland America Line are inseparable”, she said.
“It’s like a new member of our family has been born. We are glad to share this wonderful day with you.”

Brand Ambassador Seth Wayne hosted additional guests up on the Lido Deck where proceedings were broadcast live on the big screen.
Rotterdam is the third in Holland America Line’s Pinnacle class of cruise ships, joining Koningsdam and Nieuw Statendam. The vessel boasts popular speciality restaurants like Tamarind as well as music venues like The Rolling Stone Rock Room, Billboard Onboard and B.B. King’s Blues Club.
