Excellent

The Aqua Mekong suites are the most luxurious accommodations on the river. There are Aqua Mekong Suites with a balcony as well as non-balcony suites, the choice is yours. Either way, the Aqua Mekong suites are spacious homes away from home.

The decor exudes an unmistakable sense of Asiatic elegance. There are hardwood interiors and lacquered finishes, as well as designer touches like silk padded walls and subtle lighting. It’s all very smart and sets the scene for a memorable Mekong adventure.

An elegant living space

The Aqua Mekong suites can be likened to a junior suite in a hotel. Measuring 30 sq. m. / 322 sq. ft. they are carefully laid out to enhance the sense of space. Each has a small entry foyer and a combined sleeping / sitting area. Indeed, the internal space of the Balcony and Non-balcony Suites is remarkably similar.

The Aqua Mekong Balcony Suite has floor-to-ceiling glass doors that lead on to an expansive balcony. The interior is slightly smaller than that of a Non-balcony Suite, but nonetheless there is space for a king size bed as well as a single armchair. Some people might find the lack of indoor seating bothersome.

Night stands on either side of the bed have a set of deep drawers which I found handy for storing personal items like spectacles and eReaders.

Bedside power outlets have a single universal power point and a USB-A charger, so if your mobile device uses USB-C you will need an adaptor.

The Aqua Mekong Non-balcony Suites offer more internal space. As such they include all the furnishings of the Balcony Suites, but also have room for a set of chaise lounges. Though I have to say these we not comfortable for periods of computer use or reading.

The Non-balcony Suites have a chaise lounge setup.

The Non-balcony Suites have floor-to-ceiling windows for uninterrupted views. What’s more, the windows slide wide open so you can enjoy the gentle breeze.

Both the Balcony and Non-balcony Suites come with tea and coffee making facilities. Coffee pods and tea bags are kept in the ceramic jars. Interestingly, the tap water on Aqua Mekong is filtered so it is fit to drink. In fact, I thought it was very palatable.

Editors tip: It’s worth nothing that there is no refrigerated mini-bar. If you have medication that requires refrigeration speak to the on board Cruise Director.

Before booking your cruise on Aqua Mekong it’s good to know that there are no televisions on board. So it’s the perfect excuse to disconnect from the daily news cycle.

Spacious balcony

The outside space of an Aqua Mekong Balcony Suite is a real treat. The balcony is extra large, with room for an outdoor dining setting.

The balcony is the perfect place to relax and watch the river glide past. There is even a sheer blind which you can wind down for protection from the sun.

Designer bathroom

The bathrooms in the Aqua Mekong Suites are unique and luxurious. They are located on the outer edge of the vessel which means they have river views; it’s something I’ve never experienced before.

Editoris tip: It’s worth noting that there is not much storage space in the bathroom. However, there is a narrow shelf above the vanity.

The bathroom is bright and incredibly spacious.

Also, they have designer finishes like woven vinyl flooring, faux-mother of pearl and bespoke stone composite sinks. There is also a spacious rain water shower, though it’s worth noting the shower is open, so it tends to leak onto the bathroom floor. That said, the bathrooms have a genuine wow factor.

Storage space

There is ample storage space in the Aqua Mekong Suites. A large closet has hanging space for two cases full of clothing. There are also shelves for bulky items as well as a safe. A set of drawers are ideal for delicates and smalls while I found the cupboards useful for storing my mobile devices.

There are complimentary Aqua Expedition branded flip-flops.
