An original Andy Warhol will take pride of place in a new art collection on board Explora I, together with rare limited-edition screenprints and lithographs by Warhol and his pop-art contemporary, Roy Lichtenstein.

The featured Warhol original is an acrylic and silkscreen on canvas known as “Campbell’s Soup Box: Chicken Rice, 1986”. It is valued at USD150,000. Warhol painted it about twenty years after the Campbell’s Soup motif first appeared in his earlier work.

Also on show in Explora I’s Pop Art collection are multiple screen prints from Warhol’s famous Campbell’s soup series, as well as Lichtenstein’s “I Love Liberty” and “As I Opened Fire”, to name but a few.

Together, the Warhol and Lichtenstein works represent a transformative era in American pop-art; a cultural commentary about commercialism and the place of art within. They will remain on board Explora I until the northern spring of 2025.

It’s worth noting that expert luminaries and hosts will be on board Explora I to guide guests through the legendary works.

In addition to the visiting American pop-art installation, Explora I boasts its own outstanding permanent collection. Indeed, it is like a floating gallery; showcasing works by some of the most important and influential names in the art world.

“Art has always been one of the main focal points of the guest experience on board our ships. The carefully curated art selection features a blend of renowned and emerging artists, alongside master artisans.”

Guests will find artwork enhancing every space on board; in the restaurants, lounges and even in the suites. Explora Journeys tell us these artworks showcase the owner’s family’s commitment to aesthetics and elevating the onboard experience.

For instance, a sculptural masterpiece by Egyptian-born artist Yves Dana adorns the lobby. On Deck 5 guests can admire Yinka Shonibare’s extraordinary and important British Library collections (Philanthropists, 2021; Activists, 2021; Actors, 2020; Female Artists, 2020; Writers, 2019).
