Nieuw Statendam pools
There are two swimming pools on Nieuw Statendam. The Lido Pool is in the middle of the cruise ship and has a retractable roof, while the open air Sea View Pool is aft.
Indeed, the Seaview Pool has spectacular wake views and it is surrounded by sun loungers. It also has two heated whirlpool tubs. If the weather is good the Sea View pool is a very popular place to relax in the sun.
On the other hand, the Lido Pool is more popular with kids and families. There are water features and lots of room to play. Sun loungers also surround the Lido Pool and there are daybeds upstairs with views across the pool and out to sea. However, it’s worth noting that when the retractable roof is closed the chlorine aroma can be strong.
During my sailing neither of the Nieuw Statendam pools had an adults only policy.
On sea days both swimming pools tend to be very crowded.
The Retreat
The Retreat is an outdoor area that is perfect for guests who prefer a quieter, more luxurious place to relax. There are 22 private cabanas, some with ocean views and others overlooking the pool deck below.
It’s worth noting that some cabanas are larger than others. These larger cabanas are known as ‘family cabanas’. They are 50% bigger, with space for a table and chairs as well as loungers.
The Retreat also has a large heated whirlpool, shared lounge chairs and sun beds.
In addition, the Retreat has dedicated staff and an exclusive snack and bar list. Indeed breakfast, lunch and snacks can all be ordered in the Retreat, including items from the New York Deli & Pizza restaurant.
A day in the Retreat includes these extra perks:
- A glass of sparkling wine.
- Chocolate dipped strawberries and frozen grapes in the late afternoon.
- Towel and bathrobes.
- Handheld fans.
- Evian Brumisateur mister.
- Chilled bottled water setup.
- Fruit basket.
- Breakfast and lunch options.
- Ice Cream and condiments in the early afternoon.
- 20% saving on Signature services from the Greenhouse Spa & Salon (port days only).
A regular cabana in the Retreat costs USD85 on sea days, or USD55 on port days. A Retreat cabana package costing USD399 is also available for up to 7 days.
Family cabanas cost USD125 on sea days, or USD75 on port days.
Nieuw Statendam gym
There is an excellent gym onboard Nieuw Statendam and it even has a view. In fact keeping fit at sea has never been so enjoyable.
There are treadmills, bikes and elliptical trainers as well as free-weights and weight machines.
The gym also has a space for yoga, pilates, aerobics and stretch. Personal trainers are available for an hourly or daily fee.
The sports court and jogging track
Nieuw Statendam boasts an open air basketball court, outdoor fitness machines and numerous shuffleboard courts.
There is also an excellent jogging track. Twelve laps around is 1.6km / 1.0mi. But remember to walk on the inside of the track and jog on the outside.
The Greenhouse Spa & Salon
The Greenhouse Spa & Salon is a haven of relaxation and wellness on board Nieuw Statendam.
There are facial treatments featuring premium, naturally sourced ingredients which will leave your skin looking and feeling great. In addition, there are a range of massage therapies designed to ease tired muscles and sooth away the stresses of work.
There is also a full service salon for hair and nails. Plus, gents will appreciate the barber shop for all their grooming needs.

Does the Nieuw Statendam have Peloton cycles in the gym?
Hi Kelly

Another great experience was at The Greenhouse Spa and Salon. On the seven day cruise, I had 4 massages and one facial treatment. Cia and Michelle were great.
At the lido pool what was your experience with the movie screen during the day? Were they showing movies or shows? What was the volume like?
Dear Ben
There were no daytime screenings during my voyage. However, the volume during evening screenings was perfect.
Kind regards
